Find a gite or two
If you want to find some gites or cottages (I'll just call them gites from now on) in France, you can find them all over the place. For those who don't want to travel too far, have a look at Brittany and Normandy. Both these areas are just across the channel, so getting there isn't an issue - and you won't have to drive too far once you get off the ferry. If you want to head to the south of France for some French culture - or just for the sun, the places to head for are Languedoc and Provence. Provence in particular is very popular with us Brits.
France has a lot to offer a visitor. For the culture minded visitor, you've got the ancient castles which are dotted around the French countryside. Or the magnificent museums in places like Paris. For more modern history, there's plenty of World War I and World War II sites in the north of the country which are well worth a visit.
And don't forget the wine - as if you would forget. There are acres of vineyards in the southern areas of France, so if a drop of wine is your thing, the south of the country is the place to head.
