Views from Cliffords Tower in York
Find some holiday lodges near Cliffords Tower Cliffords Tower in York is a stone "castle" built on a mound. Though not a huge structure; if you're staying in York, it's well worth a visit. On our family holiday to Oakwood Lodges we decided to take in Cliffords Tower. It cost us around £10 for all four of us to get in, which isn't too bad - as anybody with children will agree with, taking kids anywhere end up costing a small fortune! We spent about ¾ hour looking round Cliffords Tower. There isn't too much to see, so don't plan a half day excursion. What really makes Cliffords Tower a good spot though is the views you get of York, and the surrounding area. You can climb the stone steps, and walk around the top of the tower. If you're scared of heights, you may not fancy walking round the walls. The stone floors can be quite uneven, which does feel a little strange.
If you do get to the top of the tower, the video on the right shows you the kind of views that can be expected. This video was taken on a clear October day - after I'd prized my finger from the hand rail. Yes, I was that scared; although most people seemed to be happy to walk round without the need to hold on for dear life.
